Welcome to Homeschool EmpowerED's online community-led co-op and learning center. Our curriculum and learning experiences are centered on Flourish Pathways™, a revolutionary learning framework centered on gamification, digital connectivity, and project-based exploration.
Our online learning community is one part chat, one part on-demand learning, one part homework portal, and one part live sessions hub. All fun!
A safe space for parents, learners, mentors, and instructors can all meet to share ideas, make connections, and learn together.
Each year, community members cast their votes to help us decide what classes, clubs, and mentoring circles are offered and when, giving learners and parents full control over where their learning takes them!
Gamers are science-minded and like to think strategically with fast-action decisions and constantly active processing. Gamers love to play and recreate and prefer living experiences over reading about them. Gamers get interactive homework, and specialized reading supports that focus on their subject of choice.
Builders love to work with their hands and enjoy a challenge that requires them to develop solutions independently. Builders need constant guidance to stay on task because they often don't like to plan far in advance, but they love art and creativity and thrive in either small group learning or one-on-one coaching.
Strategists love to read, study, and plan for unexpected events while doing projects they can research on their own. They have high levels of self-efficacy and self-awareness. Strategists prefer silence and a quiet place to study and prefer learning one-on-one rather than group studies. Strategists love a good worksheet and are always in the mood for a good, thick book or philosophical question.
We believe learning can be wonderful when done online, but unlike virtual schools, we don't support a full 4-8 hour day online. Instead, we support a well-rounded academic schedule that combines online academic learning with digital networking, in-person service learning activities, and hands-on experiences (like field trips to museums, libraries, historical parks, etc.). We believe screen time is best determined by the parent, so each learning experience is crafted to minimize screen time and be ala carte. We also include non-digital activities in almost all our learning experiences, including worksheets, outdoor activities, and art projects.
Our learning pathways are grade agnostic, so we don't group students by grade levels but rather by competency levels and coursework expectations. Thus, K-5th graders will typically learn together, as will 6-12th graders. Sometimes, we even have classes that include K-8th graders or all grades. It's up to parents to decide which group their students will do best in, and it's okay to try out both!
Our educational content is religiously neutral, as we think parents do an amazing job teaching faith-based concepts if they choose to do so.
Guides and instructors are mentors who help facilitate instruction while ensuring learners take the driver's seat in the learning experiences. Most classes are structured to have guides or instructors, and most will not have "teachers" in the conventional sense.
Our guides and instructors will come from different political, religious, and academic backgrounds, and we always desire to be a safe space for learners and teachers of all backgrounds to learn more about themselves and each other through our specially designed learning experiences rooted in community and liberatory design.
We welcome neurodivergent learners in our learning spaces and provide specialized support for learners who need 1-on-1 coaching to progress through the classes and coursework.
We train instructors, guides, and teachers to effectively manage small groups of 5-12 learners online (the typical size of each session) and have class standards for communication and project completion for learners.
Instructors and guides keep grades of A-C in graded classes (we don't give grades below a C) and Pass/Fail in all other classes and electives, but parents don't have to use them. Some classes will allow learners or parents to grade directly, with only feedback from the instructor or guide.
We allow youth and fellow learners to lead classes and clubs as they see fit, training them on proper teaching skills and academic design. Students 13+ are welcome to volunteer for 8-16 weeks to run a class of their own.
Homework is mostly optional, as activities done in class typically account for the majority of the grade. Most assigned projects will have multiple options for completion so learners can choose which one best suits their learning style.
